"Qadr" is Arabic for "Power /Ability".It is the anniversary of the night Muslims believe the first Verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) by the angel Gabriel (Jibril in Arabic). It is also the anniversary of the night in which the Quran is believed by Muslims to have first been revealed.

We have indeed sent down the Qur’an in the Night of Destiny. (1) And what have you understood, what the Night of Destiny is! (2) The Night of Destiny is better than a thousand months. (3) In it descend the angels and Jibreel, by the command of their Lord – for all works. (4) It is peace until the rising of dawn. (5)

Laylat Al-Qadr in The View of Hadith
Narrated Abu Huraira (ALLAH Bless With Him):
Messenger of ALLAH (Peace Be Upon Him) said, "Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain ALLAH's rewards (not to show off) then all his past sins will be forgiven."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Al-Iman, Hadith Number 35, Classification of Hadith: Sahih)
Ziyad (ALLAH Bless With Him) related to me from Malik (ALLAH Bless With Him) that he had heard a man he trusted of the people of knowledge say:
Messenger of ALLAH (Peace Be Upon Him) was shown the lifespans of the people (who had gone) before him, or what ALLAH willed of that, and it was as if the lives of the people of his community had become too short for them to be able to do as many good actions as others before them had been able to do with their long lives, so ALLAH gave him Laylat al- Qadr, which is better than a thousand months."
(Muwatta Malik, Kitab Al-I'tikaf, Hadith Number 16)
Days of Laylat Al-Qadr
Narrated Aisha (ALLAH Bless With Her):
Messenger of ALLAH (Peace Be Upon Him) said, "Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Fazal Qadr, Hadith Number 2017, Classification of Hadith: Sahih)
Narrated Ubada bin As-Samit (ALLAH Bless With Him):
Messenger of ALLAH (Peace Be Upon Him) went out to inform the people about the (date of the) night of decree (Al-Qadr) but there happened a quarrel between two Muslim men. The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said, "I came out to inform you about (the date of) the night of Al-Qadr, but as so and so and so and so quarrelled, its knowledge was taken away (I forgot it) and maybe it was better for you. Now look for it in the 7th, the 9th and the 5th (of the last 10 nights of the month of Ramadan)."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Al-Iman, Hadith Number 49, Classification of Hadith: Sahih)
Laylat Al-Qadr is to be found in the last ten odd nights of Ramadan. There is no history in the Qur'an and Hadith as to when the specific date is.Therefore in all the Islamic countries, the Laylat al-Qadar is found to be on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th night of Ramadan.
Signs of Laylat Al-Qadr
The first sign
It was reported in Sahih Muslim from the hadith of Ubayy ibn Ka’b (ALLAH Bless With Him) that the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) announced that one of its signs was that
"When the sun rose on the following morning, it had no (visible) rays".
(Muslim, 762)
The second sign
It was reported from the hadith of Ibn Abbas (ALLAH Bless With Him) narrated by Ibn Khuzaimah (ALLAH Bless With Him), and by Al-Tayalisi (ALLAH Bless With Him) in his Musnad, with a Sahih isnad, that the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said:
“Laylat Al-Qadr is a pleasant night, neither hot nor cold, and the following day the sun rises red and weak.”
(Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah, 2912; Musnad Al-Tayalisi)
The third sign
It was reported by Al-Tabarani with a hasan isnad from the hadith of Wathilah ibn Al-Asqa (ALLAH Bless With Him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Laylat al-Qadr is a bright night, neither hot nor cold, in which no meteors are seen.”
(Narrated by Al-Tabarani in Al-Kabir. See Majma Al-Zawaid, 3/179; Musnad Ahmad)
These three Sahih Hadiths explain the signs which indicate Laylat Al-Qadr.It is not essential for the one who “catches” Laylat al-Qadr to know that he has “caught” it. The point is to strive hard and to be sincere in worship, whether or not one knows that one has “caught” it. It may be that some of those who do not know that may be better with ALLAH and higher in status than those who did know which night it was, because the former strove hard. We ask ALLAH to accept our fasting and our prayer at night, and to help us to remember Him and to thank Him and to worship Him properly.
Observances
Faisal Mosque In The Night Qadr
Muslims often pray extra prayers on this day, particularly the night prayer. They awake, pray, and hope God will give them anything they may desire on this night. Mostly, they perform tilawat (Reading the Qur'an).
Those who can afford to devote their time in the remembrance of God stay in the mosque for the final ten days of Ramadan. This worship is called Itikaf (Retreat). They observe fast during the day and occupy themselves with the remembrance of God, performing voluntary prayers and studying the Qur'an, day and night, apart from the obligatory prayers which they perform with the congregation. Food and other necessities of life are provided for them during their stay in the mosque. Devoting time to remember God, Muslims also hope to receive divine favors and blessings connected with the blessed night.
