The Quba Mosque (Quba Masjid or Masjid Al-Quba, Arabic: مسجد قباء) just outside Medina in Saudi Arabia, is the oldest mosque of Saudi Arabia and also in world.This is the first mosque in Islam. Its foundation stone was laid by the Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) himself when he reached Madinah on emigration (Hijrat).According to Islamic beliefs, the first mosque in the world was the Kaaba, whose existing foundation was raised up by Abraham, assisted by his son Ismail (Peace On Both), upon an order from God. The oldest mosque built by Muslims is the Quba Mosque in Medina.
History Of Mosque
During Ottoman empire
Its foundation stone was laid by the Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) himself when he reached Quba a town near Medina during emigration (Hijrat).The Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) himself has joined his companions in the building process, and then it was renewed by the third Caliph Uthman Ibn Affan (ALLAH Bless With Him) where he added to it.Then it was further renewed by the Caliph Omar Bin Abdul Aziz (ALLAH Bless With Him), when he was the governor of Medinah, and he constructed the minaret, between the years 87 to 93H. In the year 435H the mosque was supplied by the Prayer niche "Mihrab". In the year 555H the mosque was renewed by Kamal Al-Din Al-Isfahani, and then its building was renewed several times in the years 671,733,840,881H at the time of the Ottoman Empire. The latest renovation took place in the era of Sultan Mahmud II and his son Sultan Abdul Majid in the year 1245H at the time of the Ottoman Empire. On Thursday 8 Safar 1405H, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, laid down the foundation stone to start the historical expansion, which lasted for two years until 28th Safar 1407H which became one of the memorable days in which the construction process was completed and the mosque was inaugurated by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, in one of his regular visits to Medinah.
Architecture and Design
The mosque is a rectangular, and it was taken into account in the design of the mosque that it would have an inner courtyard in the middle of the mosque open to all entrances, and the northern part was dedicated for women with separate entrances away from the men's entrances. The mosque consists of two floors in order to accommodate a number of women visitors, and it has 4 minarets and 56 domes and adjoined to it is the residence of Imams and muezzins and a library. The area of the mosque floor is 13500 square meters, and the area of the mosque premises is 5860 square meters, including 7000 prayer places for women, and there has 4 minarets.The mosque can accommodate upto twenty thousand worshipers.
The roof of the mosque has the shape of a series of domes, 62 in number, and the main dome of a height of 25 meters and is surrounded by five domes of the height of 20 meters each, and the height of the remaining domes is 12 meters.The number of doors is as follows: 7 main entrances and 12 subsidiary entrances, and housing is provided for the employees of the mosque, which includes two parts, each of 172 meters allocated for the Imams and muezzins, and there is accommodation for the guards area with an area of 112 square meters, and a market with an area of 450 square meters and it includes 12 shops. The mosque has 64 toilets for men and the area of all is 182 square meters, and 34 units to perform ablution, with an area of 124 square meters. There are 32 toilets for women, with an area of 91 square meters, and units that contain 42 units with an area of 164 square meters. The mosque is cooled by three central units the capacity of each unit consists of one million and eighty thousand thermal units.
